Commercial building construction in Liberia, ground up
Commercial building construction in Liberia rarely stays with one contractor from start to finish. King Sign & Design took this one all the way — the Malk Building, a two-storey retail and office block at King Gray, opposite the Zone 8 Police Station, from excavation to handover between 2024 and 2025.
The usual pattern is that a job changes hands partway: one firm pours the concrete, walks away, and a second arrives months later to work out how the glazing and the cladding are supposed to meet it. Here the same team carried the whole thing. Site works, the borehole, the reinforced concrete frame, slabs and cast in-situ stair, then the aluminium shopfronts, the composite cladding and the signage — one contract, one set of drawings.
That control shows in the frontage. The aluminium frames were fabricated flat on site and set into openings built to take them, so the glazing lines run true across the elevation. The composite panels wrapping the columns and the fascia band were set out to the same grid, which is why the signage sits where it belongs instead of being fitted around whatever the structure left behind.
